Kitu-Kito: A Respite for the Busy Bodies
Kitu-Kito is one of the less known tourist attractions in Puerto Princesa. If you intend to go north of Palawan, it will only take about 45 minutes to reach this place. Kitu-Kito has the ambiance of rural life which can relieve you of the stresses of living the urban life, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. You can stay overnight alone, with your loved one, or as a group. A few days spent in their cottages will allow you to commune with nature thereby relaxing your mind. Or you may just enjoy the food. They have a restaurant to provide you a variety of sea foods. By the way, this place is owned by the well-known operator of Balinsasayaw in downtown Puerto Princesa. So you can rest assured enjoy the same or better food just like in the restaurant with a personal touch.
They have a lodging house next to Nagsangit River which is fringed with mangroves. You can request to ride their fiber glass boat for a personalized tour around for a reasonable fee. Iking, the caretaker, can skillfully paddle the boat amidst the mangroves to see the floating mussel farm, or get a glimpse of the binturan, a snake sleeping amongst the leaves of mangroves. You just have to stay calm and take pictures of the snake from afar using your camera's zoom. The author approached the snake for just about two to three meters and actually had a good shot. Also, the flowering mangroves are wonderful works of nature that when magnified are actually appealing. See these pictures in my article on Kitu-Kito here.
So if you just want to have a short break in a rustic place which can give you the serenity you want, Kitu-Kito is a nice place to stay.
