Horned Frog (Megophrys ligayae)

The Palawan horned frog (Megophrys ligayae) above is listed as endangered species by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN). I found the above featured juvenile (about 3 cm long) along the sloping margins of Iwahig river amongst a pile of leaves and twigs. The horned frog almost cannot be discerned because its color approximates that of a leaf. After moving the litter about and poking a stick around, the horned frog was discovered just next to the roots of a pandan tree. The horned frog just stayed there motionless probably thinking it eluded our prying eyes.
