Chubby Frog (Kaloula pulchra)

I was surprised to see this chubby frog in front of my door at one time. It was there, forcing its way through the narrow opening of the door. It looks like a different kind of frog to me so I took a picture and tried to find information about a similar-looking frog in Google. I typed "frog in Palawan" and set the output to images. I then compared the image I took with that found in the internet.chubby frog

I learned that the frog has many names. It is called the Asian painted bullfrog, the ox frog, the painted frog, the Malaysian narrow-mouthed (obviously because of its narrow mouth), or the bubble frog.

These frogs are active during the rainy days and I can hear their noisy chattering in front of our house near a pool of water and in our backyard. They are small, but they croak so loud you cannot sleep. I did try to approach them one raidy day and I saw probably hundreds of them that made me record the sound they make. I'll get back to this post once I retrieve that recording and link it here.

Update: 8/13/13

Last night, the rains started to pour again. It's time for these frogs to call each other again and they did their noisy croaks all night long. I feature two videos below showing a pair of frogs with their characteristic croaks (like cows) in the background and their difficult walk together across rocks and grass.
